District News

Parkland School District students, parents, residents and staff are invited to participate in a the new superintendent's Parkland Pride Award Program recognizing outstanding employee and volunteer achievements within the district.

Let the district know about a staff member or volunteer who has gone the extra mile this school year. Nominations are due online by April 17.

School will now be in session April 2. Both are inclement weather make-up days.

Achievements/Announcements

Parkland High School students Liam Power, Matilda Kitabwalla and Emily Kapelsohn, are honorable mention winners in C-SPAN's national 2015 StudentCam competition.

They will receive $250 for their documentary, "National School Lunch Program: Healthy Kids, Unhealthy Budgets."

Liam, Matilda and Emily are among 347 students who won a prize.

The high school Engineering Club competed in the Pennsylvania VEX Robotics State Championships and won the "Excellence Award," given to the overall top team at the tournament.

It is the highest honor in the VEX Robotics Competition, given to a team that exemplifies excellence in building as well as a well-rounded VEX Robotics Program.

They have qualified for the VEX World Competition in April.

Team members are: Jacob Nichols, Kyle Nichols, Raquel Herrera, Tim Miller, Aaron Weaver, Austin Chappelear, Joe Dombrosky, Kevin DeVincentis, Liam Power, Mahdiali Hassanali and Shreyas Sane.

At the 81st annual Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Competition, there were 32 first place high school winners and one student received a perfect score.

From Springhouse Middle School, there were 52 first place awards with four of those students receiving a perfect score.

From Orefield, there were 32 first place winners with four of those students receiving a perfect score.

Students who receive a first place award are eligible to participate in the state competition at Penn State in May.

The following high school students auditioned and qualified for the 2015 All-State Chorus: Jennifer Ondrey (Soprano 1), Natalie Ondrey (Alto 1), Jillian Krempasky (Alto 1), Lisa Stein (Alto 2), Jacob Stahl (Tenor 2), Josiah Smith (Tenor 2) and Bryan Sobczak (Bass 2)

Additionally, Grace Lerew (Soprano 1) ranked high enough to qualify for the festival but declined her placement because she has already committed to All-State Band.

Congratulations to the high school"Entertainer of the Year" Lindsey Ervolina. She played the guitar and sang an original song called "Make it out Alive" to win the annual competition hosted by the Leo Club, a community service club.
