The Borough of Northampton coffers got a major boost, borough council was told at a recent meeting.
A check for $152,097 came from RCN, the major TV cable provider for many of the town's families.
Borough Manager Gene Zarayko said the hefty check represents RCN's 2014 franchise cable fee and it is $6,234 more than what was received in 2013. Actually it is the residents' money since a franchise fee is added to the monthly bill.
In other business, Northampton Exchange Club was given permission to use the borough's municipal park July 8-12 for its annual Community Days fair.
Council stated the annual children's Easter egg hunt will be held at the municipal park Saturday, March 28, 11 a.m. The rain date is Sunday, March 29, 1 p.m. No registration is required. Children 10 years old and younger can participate.
The fire department's pumper truck 4213 was taken to the manufacturer KME for pump testing and the repair of several valves.
The borough has on order the 2015 Ford pickup truck, which is in the sewer department's budget. The truck will have a heavy duty suspension system capable of pulling the sewer flusher machine.
Reporting the borough fire department was among several fire companies which responded to a large barn fire in Allen Township, Zarayko said, "We sometimes don't realize how fortunate we are to have fire hydrants throughout the borough because all of the water had to be brought to the scene by tanker trucks."
