Springhouse M.S. student wins spelling bee title

Gayoung Lee, a seventh-grade student at Springhouse Middle School is the school's 2015 spelling bee champion.

Gayoung, who had a perfect score on the preliminary round written test, competed against 10 other contestants in grades six to eight for the championship title.

Along with Gayoung, Jeff Yi, Sriyaa Suresh, Prachi Soni, Aditi Pallod, Maya Parekh, Kavish Senthilkumar, Audrika Khondaker, Josh Jaffe, Srijan Sharma, and Christina Yi represented the top spellers from more than 200 students who participated in the preliminary written round.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee provides students with the opportunity to sharpen their spelling skills through local, regional and national competitions.

After spelling his winning word – savvy – Gayoung received prizes from the Encyclopaedia Brittanica.

Gayoung will go on to represent Springhouse at the regional spelling bee at Northampton Community College in March.
