Anne E. Douglas-Minnich

Anne E. Douglas-Minnich, 55, of Wyomissing, died Jan. 21, 2015 in Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, where she had been a patient with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of Keith A. Minnich, M.D. with whom she shared almost 28 years of marriage. Born in Phoenix, Ariz., she was a daughter of Darrell R. and Jane I. (Miler) Douglas of Elizabethtown.

She received her Bachelor of Elementary Education degree from Penn State University in 1986. She graduated from the Special Education Certificate program at Millersville University in 1990 and received her Master of Education in Teaching and Curriculum Design from Penn State University in 1995. In 2005, she received her principal's certification from Alvernia College.

Upon moving to Reading, she served in several positions including elementary classroom special education teacher for Kids Peace (formerly Advances of Wiley House), Reading; middle school and high school special education teacher for the Alsace Program through the Berks County Intermediate Unit; and elementary classroom special education teacher for the Alsace Program.

After serving as a high school learning support teacher for the Conrad Weiser School District in 2007-2008, she became the coordinator of elementary special education, itinerant teacher for the Owen J. Roberts School district from 2008-2009, returning to Conrad Weiser School District as the assistant high school principal from 2009-2011. Most recently, she served as the high school supervisor of special education for Wilson School District from 2011 until just five weeks ago.

In 2003, she received the "Annie Sullivan Award" an award presented annually by the Berks County Intermediate Unit in recognition of an individual who has worked to encourage the understanding and promotion of students with disabilities. Annie Sullivan was Helen Keller's teacher and mentor.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by four children, Carolyn A. and her husband Adam D. Frymoyer of Wyomissing, Ehren D. and companion Raeann Moyer of West Reading, Lauren E. of Wyomissing and Keian S. of Wyomissing; siblings, Stephen and his wife Elaine Douglas, of York, Betsy and her husband Stephen Updegraff, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jim and his wife Dani Douglas, of Portland, Ore.; half-sister, Bridget and her husband Steve Swanson, of Ramona, Calif; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Scarlett Frymoyer.
