Arrest made in hit-and-run crash

The motorist allegedly responsible for striking and injuring a 10-year-old Northampton Borough girl last Friday morning on Main Street has turned herself in.

Borough Police Chief Ron Morey told The Press Tuesday morning Amanda Miller, 21, of Bath early Monday evening called Northampton County 911 and confessed to hitting the girl with her vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident.

"She said she saw her car on the news and turned herself in," Morey said.

According to Morey, Miller has been charged with a misdemeanor 1 of accident involving death or personal injury and two summary offenses of duty to give information and rendering aid and immediate notice of accident to the police department

Morey said Miller was transported to central booking in Easton Monday evening for her arraignment.

Miller's preliminary hearing, Morey said, will likely take place later this month.

The young girl sustained injuries that are "moderate," Morey explained. After the incident, she was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

According to reports, the girl was walking by herself to Colonel John Siegfried Elementary School when she was struck by Miller. A private camera attached to a business on Main Street filmed the accident, Morey said.

There are no school crossing guards posted in the area where the child was struck.
