Madeline J. Kern

Madeline J. Kern, 96, formerly of Salisbury Township and Sebring, Fla., died peacefully Jan. 12, 2015, at Phoebe Home, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Edwin R. Kern, Sr. with whom she shared 52 years of marriage prior to his death in 1997. Born in Catasauqua, she was a daughter of the late Wilson and Ruth (Frye) Krasley.

She was a member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union. She worked as a sewing machine operator at various mills in the area for more than 40 years, retiring in 1980.

She is survived by a son, Edwin R., Jr. and his wife Doris, of Hanover Township; two daughters, June Kalusky, of Slatington and Ruthann M. and her husband Gary Rackawack, of Kila, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise and her husband Kenneth Croll, of Venice, Fla., and Dottie and her husband James Owen, of Hendersonville, N. C.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph, a daughter, Susan Sotak; two brothers, Russell and Carol "Buster" Krasley, a sister, Ruth Milhalick and an infant granddaughter, June.
