Residents sought to fill board vacancies

Northampton Borough Council is asking residents to step up and submit their names for vacancies on existing boards.

"There are currently openings on various boards and commissions. We need applicants for the zoning, hearing board, planning commission and the UCC Board of Appeals," borough Manager Gene Zarayko said.

Edward D. Hozza Sr., longtime member and chairman of the Northampton Borough Municipal Authority, was reappointed by council to serve a five-year term on the NBMA.

Council Vice President Robert McHale was reappointed to a four-year term on the planning commission. However, there remains one vacancy on the five-member board.

Irene Urban was reappointed for a five-year-term to the borough's Board of Health.

Borough Fire Chief Robert Solderich was reappointed to the borough zoning hearing board of adjustment.

Stephen F. Turoscy Jr. of Lehigh Engineering was appointed the borough's sewage enforcement officer, a state requirement, pertaining to the installation of septic systems.

The planning commission will hold a reorganization meeting at the borough municipal complex Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.

In other news, Mayor Thomas D. Reenock issued a proclamation recognizing Gerald J. Deily on his retirement as manager of the Northampton Borough Water Authority after 44 years of service.

According to Reenock, Jerry was vision-orientated, guiding the NBMA's bond issue and the installation of the state-of-the-art water treatment facility.
