The Northampton Borough Civil Service Commission recently decided the police chief should be the only individual present while interviewing a candidate for the force.
Members of the civil service commission also recently agreed to replace the physical agility requirement for promotional positions with physical fitness standards. The commission decided to change the testing phase to a standard physical performance adjusted test.
Regarding background investigations, the commission decided the police chief may make suggestions when approving investigating agencies. The commission, however, will remain responsible for rendering the final decision on matters requiring a vote.
In other business, the commission agreed to remove the physical agility test, setting the same standard for police officers.
Also, the commission's legal counsel indicated time may be extended for police officer probationary periods.
