Northampton County has approved the Borough of Northampton's application for a Community Development Block Grant.
The grant will be used to construct handicapped curb cuts and ramps along 10th Street.
Borough Community Planner Victor Rodite in a recent report to borough council said the county administers the state's CDBG grant applications, which originally are derived from federal funding.
"We must wait for the environmental review to be completed by the county in a month or two," Rodite said. "Then it will be our turn to roll out this project."
In a separate matter regarding another proposed borough project, Rodite said an email from the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development has acknowledged receipt of the borough's grant application seeking funding from Monroe County's casino gambling funds.
"We have had to modify the budget request slightly, but nothing major, one way or another so far," he said.
The grant money would be utilized for a portable restroom facility.
"We continue to be in a wait and see mode," Rodite said.
The borough in the past has been successful in obtaining Monroe County casino grant funding for community projects.
