William H. "Billy" "Pappy" Hoppes, 84, of Macungie, formerly of Longswamp Township, died Jan. 1, 2015, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of the late Lottie E. (Fritz) Hoppes. Born in Longswamp Township, he was a son of the late Howard L. and Eva M. (Guinther) Hoppes.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was employed as a security guard at the Upper Macungie Township Recycling Center.
He was a dedicated volunteer serving with the Topton and Lyons fire companies. He served as a police lieutenant in both Topton and Lyons and as a captain in Topton. His service spanned over 60 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda J. Reinert, of Mertztown; sister, Fern and her husband John Moll, of Mertztown; half sisters, Marianna, LaRue and Jeanette; half brothers, Jack and Ronald; grandchildren, Beth J. and her husband Terry A. Reichart, Jr., Kurt A. and his wife Shannon L. Reinert and Brian and his wife Sarah; great-grandchildren, Kody A. Reichart, Emma K. Reichart, Kaden, Briley J. Reinert, and Quentin K. Reinert. He was predeceased by a son, Leonard who died Dec. 31, 2006; a sister, Mary Weiser Munn and a half brother, Howard "Butch."

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 at the Topton Volunteer Fire Co., 600 State St., Mertztown. Friends may call 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. at the fire company. The Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., Topton is in charge of arrangements.
