Russell H. Gross

Russell H. Gross, 99, of Emmaus, died Dec. 31, 2014, at Lehigh Center. He was the husband of Mildred J. (Lorah) Gross. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage Aug. 5, 2014. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Amanda (Schiffert) Gross.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Emmaus.

He was a Marine Corps veteran serving during World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Hellertown and the Marine Corps League.

He was employed as a boiler maker at Superior Combustion for 29 years until the company closed in 1974. He retired from the Fuller Company after five years of service in 1980.

He was active in the community having been a member of both #1 and #2 fire companies in Emmaus, the Unami Fish and Game, the Emmaus Historical Society, Fraternal Order of Police, Emmaus Fourth Alarmers and the Emmaus Nest of Owls.

He is survived by his wife; son, Daniel R. and his wife Joann, of Emmaus; daughter, Dale R. and her husband Daniel DeLong, of Macungie; grandchildren, Chad and Tyler DeLong, Lisa McAllister, Brian; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray, Clarence and Peter; sister, Shirley Bortz; foster family; siblings from the Flexer family. He was predeceased by brothers, Howard, Robert; sister, Mabel Oels.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's U.C.C. Building Fund, 139 N. 4th St., Emmaus, 18049.

Arrangements were made by the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Emmaus.
