John J. Sakovits, 89, of Northampton, died Dec. 15, 2014, at Whitehall Manor. He was the husband of the Phyllis (Vandergrift) Sakovits.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Frank and Julianna (Orban) Sakovits.
He was in the U.S. Navy and was a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class during World War II. He received the American Theater Medal, the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with one star, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 12 stars.
He worked for Lehigh Valley Post Office until he retired in 1985. He worked previously for Dragon Cement Company.
He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church, Northampton.
He was a life member of the Peter and Paul Hungarian Society.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas J. of Northampton.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Julia Henitz and Mary Horvath; and two brothers, Joseph Sakovits and Ference Sakovits Orban.
