George Rosenfeld Schermerhorn
George Rosenfeld Schermerhorn, 76, of Whitehall, died Dec. 8, 2014, at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Eunice (Diemer) Schermerhorn for more than 44 years.
Born in Oneonta, N.Y., he was the son of the late Paul E. and Grace (Garrison) Schermerhorn.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y.; a master of music degree, specializing French horn, from Yale School of Music; and studied at Indiana and Syracuse Universities.
He was the executive director of the Community Music School, Allentown, from 1988 until his retirement in 2005. He was the director of music at the Taft School, Watertown, Conn., from 1962-1988. He was president of the Whitehall Township Public Library Board and of the congregational council of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Allentown. He was past president of Friends of Music of Bethlehem and a past member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, N.Y.C., board of directors. He was a member of Allentown Rotary Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Clinton and his wife Sally of Long Pond; two stepgrandchildren, Alan Gothard, and Robert Mauer and his companion Brianna Wilkens and their children Hunter and Jayden; a sister-in-law Miriam and her husband Roger Hatlem of Viroqua, Wisc.; and two nephews, Todd and Paul.
He was predeceased by a son, Joseph P.
