MacArthur to be closed Dec. 11

Whitehall police accident reconstruction officers, with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police, will be closing MacArthur Road and Schadt Avenue today, Thursday, Dec. 11, starting at 9 a.m. The roads will be closed for three or four hours.

The closure is required to fully reconstruct the intersection in reference to a fatal crash that took place Nov. 30, according to Whitehall police.

Both southbound and northbound MacArthur Road will be detoured at the Schadt Avenue jughandle.

PennDOT will be handling the road closures and detours. Drivers are reminded that driving around barricades, cones or authorized personnel performing traffic control is illegal. Citations will be issued to violators, police said.

Options of the timing of this were discussed. However, due to holiday weekend traffic and the schedules of participating agencies, this was chosen as the best time.

Additional officers have been assigned to the reconstruction to minimize the time involved.

"We ask for the public's patience during the closure and realized fatal crashes require thorough and accurate investigations," police said.
