Allen Township Board of Supervisors wants the township volunteer fire company to submit financial statements before it considers purchasing a new fire truck.
At the Nov. 13 meeting, the board also questioned whether Supervisor Dale Hassler, active with the fire company and its former fire chief, would be allowed to vote on the issue.
Solicitor B. Lincoln Treadwell was not present at the meeting. Board members said they will ask him to provide a legal opinion regarding Hassler's standing.
Vice Chairman Bruce Frack in the past was the subject of a possible conflict when a citizen requested he abstain from voting on the FedEx matter because he is employed by Lehigh Valley International Airport. A $335 million FedEx Ground project is proposed for land currently owned by the airport authority.
The state ethics board ruled Frack could cast a vote. Frack chose to abstain, however.
In this matter, the township set aside $40,000 to go toward the purchase of a fire truck.
"Fifty thousand dollars, that's my suggestion," Hassler said.
The total cost of the truck would be $90,000, and the funds would be placed in an escrow account or capital reserve fund.
