Robert Thornburg to retire in June 2015

Parkland School District Director of Student Services Robert Thornburg will be retiring after a 36-year career in education, effective June 30, 2015.

"This will create a huge void in the Parkland School District," District Superintendent Richard Sniscak said, at the Oct. 28 board meeting. "Rob always has a smile on his face."

Board member David Kennedy offered comments on Thornburg's services to Parkland students.

"I have a respect for anybody who's involved in education and interacts with children day in or day out," Kennedy said. "Rob has a passion for his special needs kids."

In addition to Thornburg's retirement, Director of Food Services Todd Holmes submitted his resignation after 12 years at Parkland.

His date of retirement is still to be determined.

"Todd has an excellent opportunity to improve himself in the private sector," Sniscak said.

Board President Roberta Marcus noted Holmes' fine reputation in food service extends beyond the district.

"All the large food companies know who Todd Holmes is," Marcus said.

The board also accepted the retirements of Maryann Wolfe, confidential administrative assistant-payroll in the business office after 29 years of service; Sheila Lindenmuth, financial technician-payroll in the business office, after 21 years of service; and Mary Rutter, part-time custodian at Orefield Middle School, after 25 years of service.
