Leo Club inducts new members at high school

The Northwestern Lehigh High School Leo Club recently inducted new members into their group.

Marsha Johnston, a retired Northwestern Elementary teacher, is the club advisor.

Each member was introduced and was welcomed by Lions District 14-K Gov. Fred Folland.

Folland spoke to the students about the organization they would be joining.

"Membership in a Leo Club is a privilege," he said, adding the program expanded throughout the world after its inception in Pennsylvania in 1967.

"Leo goals include high moral standards, personal responsibility and attitude of cheerfulness and understanding, and in addition, extending a helping hand to those in need," Folland said.

He closed the ceremony by congratulating the newest members and encouraging them to pursue standards set by the Leo Club.

Lion Donald Trexler attended the induction as the liaison for the Slatedale-Emerald Lion's Club, which sponsors the Leo Club.

Judy Ott, Whitehall-Coplay School District Leo Club advisor, also attended.

There are nine Leo Clubs associated with Northampton and Lehigh counties.

Both Trexler and Folland agreed for the Northwestern Leo Club to bring in 24 new members in one year is a major accomplishment for a group only in existence for four years.
