Springhouse to present 'The Three Musketeers'
Springhouse Middle School Theater students will present their version of the Alexandre Dumas classic "The Three Musketeers" this weekend.
The play set in the 17th century tells the adventures of D'Artagnan, a young poor nobleman after he leaves home in Gascony and travels to Paris to join the Musketeers of the Guard.
This play is based on Dumas' classic novel by the same name, which was first published in serial form in the newspaper Le Siecle between March and July 1844.
Daniel Stewart will play young D'Artagnan.
Portraying the musketeers will be Raphael Ettinger-Finley as Porthos, Kevalin Kalra as Athos and Henry Sharp as Aramis.
This play is being directed by Jessica Manmiller, with set design by Michael Palazzo and costumes by Jessica Manmiller and Pam Kyle.
Manmiller said this is a hilarious version of the Dumas classic.
"Young D'Artagnan seeks to become a musketeer, or at least see if that brochure about Paris is true," she said. "In the city for less than 10 minutes, he finds himself facing all three of the musketeers when they are charged by Rochefort and the Cardinal's Guards."
"This spoof of seventeenth century France pulls out all the stops and is full of outrageous characters from a lying Cardinal who's into magic to Milady DeWinter who cannot get rid of her mother," Manmiller stated.
She said throw in a narrator, several star-crossed lovers, a race on stick horses and a fund-raising telethon and your audience won't know what hit them.
The play is full of fast-paced quips and action, stated Manmiller.
The theater students will be performing "The Three Musketeers," 7 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24 and 2 p.m. Oct. 26 in the middle school auditorium.
Tickets are $5 and will be available for all shows at the door.
