Narnia cast discusses roles
Orefield Middle School Theater students recently discussed their roles in "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" with The Press.
Matthew Melchior portrays Peter Pevensie, Mackenzie Lynch plays Susan Pevenie, Aaron Finkle portrays Edmund Pevenie and Emily Babinchak plays Lucy Pevenie.
"I am the oldest of the four Pevenie children. I am brave," said Melchior. "My little brother Edmund is so annoying, so I show him who is boss."
Melchior loves having a big part in the play.
"It is so much fun to fool around with your friends and get work done," he said. "I love how I get to kill the White Witch and her dwarf in the play."
Lynch discussed her role as Susan Pevenie.
"Susan is almost like a mother to her siblings (Peter, Edmund and Lucy)," said Lynch. "She loves to learn and always wants to be right."
"I like playing Susan because she is a lot like me, but she is also very different," she stated.
Lynch said she likes being in the play because she enjoys being onstage and everyone is so nice.
Finkle discussed his role of Edmund Pevenie.
"My character is the one that my brother and sisters blame everything on. I am a very gullible little boy," stated Finkle. "At least one point in the show everyone hates me."
He said he enjoys his time on the dark side in the play because it is new to him.
"I have only ever been the happy, go lucky kind of character, so I enjoy being more of a traitor."
Finkle said he loves all the people in the play from the director to all the other cast members.
"I also love the experience of having this role and being a part of this show," said Finkle.
Babinchak discussed her role as Lucy Pevenie.
She said her character Lucy is one of those girls who believes everything she sees and knows hot to get everyone believing it.
"She (Lucy) finds Narnia and Mr. Tummus and just can't keep it in," she said. "She is normally really imaginative and she is super peppy."
She said she loves playing Lucy because she is a lot like her and Lucy is introducing her to theatre.
"Lucy is the first character I have ever played and she is perfect for me," stated Babinchak.
Babinchak said she loves how everyone in the play is one big family and no one is singled out, everyone laughs and just loves to be together.
Lauren Braccili who plays the White Witch and AJ Syslo who portrays Arlan, the Lion, also discussed their roles in the play.
"The White Witch is the plot and ruler of Narina," stated Braccili. "She does not want to be overthrown and will do anything to be the queen of Narina."
She said the White Witch is so cruel and mean and it is very fun to play a character where you are always feared.
"Whatever role you are, it is always fun to be around actors and actresses and watch the show come together piece by piece," stated Braccili.
"My character Aslan is the magnificent lion. I am loved by all and I am wise," said Syslo. "I help the Pevenies on their journey to rescue Edmund and defeat the White Witch. Despite my startling appearance I am also gentle and look after the children."
He said he loves playing Aslan because he enjoys trying new things.
"I have never played a wise character and doing so is fun for me," stated Syslo. "I also love to see people's reaction when they see me walk onstage."
"The reason I love being in drama is because everyone is like one big family," he said. "Through good times and the bad, we stick together."
