Interact Club particpates in Snack Pack program
Christ's Church at Lowhill Food Pantry has partnered with the Rotary Club of Allentown-West to sponsor the Snack Pack Program.
Many local businesses, individuals and the Northwestern and Parkland Interact Clubs have provided assistance.
Donations have also been received through a grant from Rotary District 7430 and Rotary International.
The grant is offered to local clubs that do good deeds for their communities and for local families.
They are in the process of applying for the same grant again this year.
The program is designed to provide nutritious food over weekends for students in the Northwestern Lehigh School District.
This is the second year for this program.
The pilot program began at Northwestern Lehigh as the Rotarians felt it would be good to begin in a small school in an effort to work out any "bugs.".
"There were no bugs to work out," Rotarian Gloria Zimmerman, said. "The program ran flawlessly from the beginning and last year 722 bags were provided to students in the district whose families signed up for the program."
Students from the Northwestern Interact Club recently met at the end of the school day to pack the snack bags.
Each bag included two cereal kits (cereal, snacks and juice box), macaroni and cheese, fruit snacks, Rice Krispie Treat, applesauce cup, fruit cup and four packs of assorted crackers.
These enterprising youngsters packed 150 bags of snacks to be given out over the next three months.
