Oct. 4 is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. Because of his love for nature and animals, he is known as the Patron Saint of Animals.
To commemorate the feast of this beloved saint, a blessing of animals will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church that day.
Msgr. Thomas Durzak, pastor, will begin the service at 10 a.m. in the church parking lot, 4412 Mountain View Drive, Walnutport.
All are welcome to bring their pets for this special blessing.

The Youth Group at Hope Lutheran Church will host a roast beef and turkey dinner on Oct. 4.
The meal will be served family style and includes roast beef or turkey, vegetables, potatoes, dessert and a beverage.
There are two seatings for the meal. The first seating is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and does not include entertainment. The second seating begins at 6:30 p.m. and features an interactive game night. Enjoy some friendly competition in a variety of games for people of all ages.
Tickets are on sale through Sunday, Sept. 28.
You can purchase them by calling the church office and leaving a message on the youth group voice mail (ext. 9).

The Bethany Wesleyan Church Cancer Connection Luminary Service & Walk will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in the ministry center.
This service honors cancer survivors, those dealing with cancer, those who have passed and the caregivers.
