receives award
Former Lehigh Carbon Community College student Caitlin Brown of Orefield was named a 2014 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar. Selection was based on the score earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,700 students from more than 900 community colleges applied for this year's competition.
Brown is a second-year student majoring in psychology and intends on continuing her education at West Chester University.
Each scholar received a $2,000 scholarship at the American Association of College Presidents Convention in Washington, D.C.
Nominations were evaluated on academic achievement, leadership, service and a response to a significant endeavor.
Judges consider grades, leadership, activities and most importantly, how students extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.
