Erik D. Kirkner
Erik D. Kirkner, 43, of Macungie, died peace- fully with family by his side Sept. 17, 2014 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Amy B. (Brashear) Kirkner. They celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary in January. He was a loving and devoted father to his two daughters, Mackenzie E. and Caitlyn P., whom he adored. Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Nancy A. (Griswold) Kirkner and Douglas L. Kirkner and stepson of Carol Kirkner of Macungie.
He was a graduate of Shaler High School in Pittsburgh and a graduate of the Allentown Police Academy. He was a police officer who served as the Emmaus Police Department's representative on the Lehigh County Drug Task Force before his retirement.
He was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Wescosville. At the church, he was known for his homemade jelly he would make with his wife and daughters to raise funds to support students enrolled in the Jamaican School of the Deaf.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an excellent cook and piano player.
He is survived by his wife; daughters; sister, Katie A. and her husband Kevin Kelly, of Elizabethtown; paternal grandmother, Eleanor, of Honeybrook; maternal grand- mother, Jean Griswold, of Lancaster; step-maternal grandmother, Pauline Griswold, of Phoenix, Ariz.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. James E. Brashear and his wife Gloria J., of Macungie; grandmother-in-law, Joanna (Walters) Altamare, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J. Quay and Cindy Brashear, of Macungie, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Keri and Matt Crawford, of Macungie; stepsister, Victoria and her husband Alex Falat, of Berlin, N.J.; nieces and nephews, Emma, Naomi, Caleb, Brydon, Sawyer, Tyler, Jackson and Ally; many aunts, uncles; cousins. He was predeceased by his mother; paternal grandfather, Joseph; maternal grandfather, Joseph Griswold; grandmother-in-law, Marjorie Brashear and grandfather-in-law, Norman Altamare.
Contributions may be made to the Kirkner Scholarship Fund for his daughters sent and made payable to Bethany Church, 1208 Brookside Road, Allentown, 18106.
