Hawks look for momentum
Paul Abi-Daher was confident that this could be a good week for Bethlehem Catholic's volleyball team and the Hawks got things started in the right way Monday night by sweeping Northampton in three games to move to 2-1 on the season.
The win was a bounce-back victory for the Hawks after getting swept by Parkland last week 20-25, 12-25 and 20-25.
With the Trojans ranked as one of the top three teams in the state, Abi-Daher saw the match as an indicator of where his team is currently this season.
"I thought we held our own with them," he said in reference to the Trojans. "They're one of the best teams in the state and we had our moments with them. It's not like we were completely overwhelmed. We still have work to do, but I was pleased with how we competed coming away from that match."
Becahi should start to separate themselves in the standings this week, as they take on Pocono Mountain East today and then travel to East Stroudsburg North on Friday. The Hawks round out their northern visits with Stroudsburg next Monday.
"I definitely feel this is a week where we can get some momentum," Abi-Daher said. "We need to start getting in rhythm and this is a good week to accomplish that."
Freedom (0-3) is still searching for their first win of the season after losing to Emmaus Monday night in three games (21-25, 15-25, 13-25). The Patriots have lost to Whitehall and Nazareth, getting swept in all three of their matches this year, outside of picking up a game in their 3-1 defeat to Whitehall.
With Pleasant Valley and East Stroudsburg South on the schedule this week, the Pates hope to pick up a victory this week.
Liberty (1-2) got swept by Parkland 11-25, 18-25 and 15-25 on Monday night as well, as the Trojans have had little trouble with their Bethlehem counterparts so far this season.
The Hurricanes finish off the week against Stroudsburg and Pocono Mountain East.
