Jessica Lightner Booz, 85, of Allentown, died Aug. 23, 2014. She was the wife of Herbert L. Booz for 61 years.
Born in Marysville, Md., she was a daughter of the late Linn C. Lightner and Mary (Deckard) Lightner.
She was a 1951 graduate of Penn State University.
She taught first grade in Harrisburg for three years. She then taught kindergarten at Kratzer Elementary School, Parkland School District, for 27 years, retiring in 1991. She loved teaching and truly believed , as the book is titled, "All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten."
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for 54 years, where she was a Sunday school superintendent and held many other positions.
She was a volunteer for an Allentown after-school program for Center City Ministries.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kathy Lynn and her husband Wayne Dries of Emmaus; a son, Mark L. and his wife Deborah of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, Linn S. Lightener of Camp Hill; four granddaughters, Becky and Kate Dries and Maggie and Annie Booz; nieces; and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lou.
There will be a calling hour from 10 -11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., both Aug. 30 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown, 18104.
Contributions may be made to the Lehigh County Conference of Churches, 534 Chew St., Allentown, 18102, for the conference's children's programs.
