Local team wins silver medal at 2014 Special Olympics

Some 3,500 athletes; 1,000 coaches and delegates; 10,000 volunteers and 70,000 spectators and families attended The Special Olympics 2014 USA Games June 14-21 at Princeton University in New Jersey.

The soccer 5V5 traditional teams Lehigh Running Rebels included: Tarre Apreala, 26, of Allentown; Brandon Batres, 17, of New Tripoli; Jose Delgado, 35, of Allentown; Luiz Diaz, 25, of Bethlehem; Greg Jackson, 42, of Bethlehem; Brandon Krekeler, 27, of Whitehall; Nicholas Lacko, 21, of Allentown; Tyler Mickle, 22, of Allentown; Head Coach Kevin Mickle of Blandon; Assistant Coach Harry Schwartz of Macungie; Assistant Coach Peter Vilbas, of Whitehall.

The USA Games showcased the awe-inspiring abilities of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Members of Team PA are from more than 30 city/county Special Olympics Pennsylvania programs and include 203 participating athletes and 70 participating coaches and staff.
