DAR chapter presents Good Citizen Awards
The Liberty Bell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution had its annual Good Citizen Award ceremony in early spring.
The chapter paid tribute to the students who were selected as being the most qualified to be their school's good citizen based on DAR's four criteria of dependability, leadership, service and patriotism.
Northwestern Lehigh winner Amy Lebrecht earned the points necessary to advance to the state level. There, she was awarded an honorable mention. The competition at this level is very keen.
Students from the entire state of Pennsylvania who have advanced to this level, are evaluated as a group
Eight high schools in Lehigh County participated. The winners then moved to the next phase of the contest which consisted of a 70-point personal section and a 30-point essay.
Three non-DAR judges, working independently, evaluated each student.
The student who accumulated the greatest number of total points from all three judges, then advanced to the state level of competition.
Chapter Award Chairman Betsy Burnhauser, of Germansville, presented a pin, wallet card certificate and book, titled "How the States Got Their Shapes," to each winner.
Junior ROTC Chair Barbara Esler presented the DAR awards for the Junior ROTC outstanding achievement Air Force medal to Cadet Capt. Kimberly Cerrato from Dieruff High School.
Cadet Angelica Sanchez from William Allen High School received the DAR award as its outstanding Junior ROTC.
A new award was presented this year.
