Upper Macungie Twp celebrating 'Night' Aug. 5 at Lone Lane Park

Residents from neighborhoods throughout Upper Macungie Township are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide 5-8:30 p.m. Aug. 5 for the 31st annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event at Lone Lane Park, 30 Lone Lane.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

The event includes MedEvac landing at 5 p.m. and take off at 6:30 p.m., police K-9 unit and motorcycle demos, police emergency response vehicles, child safety seat installation and inspections, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, food drive, Cetronia Ambulance Corps display, fire department display and smokehouse, and book exchange sponsored by Parkland Library.

In addition, there will be recruitment and information booths for Cub Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, and Community Emergency Response Team, as well as information booths by Students Against Drunk Driving, a drunk buggy, Delaware Valley Alzheimer's Association, Lehigh County Emergency Management, and Nixle community alert system.

Entertainment includes music by DJ Darren, Dunk-A-Cop dunk tank, and paint a car.

A kiddy corner by Legacy Church includes kids bounce house, face painting, sack races and more.

There will also be fundraisers for Law Enforcement United, the Upper Macungie Township Police K-9 unit and D.A.R.E.
