School directors receive budget update

Although the Parkland School District 2014-15 final budget was approved by the board in June, the district's allocation from the state was still uncertain.

At the July 15 meeting, Business Manager John Vignone reported the Ready to Learn Block Grant in the governor's budget came in $351,329 under the $602,000 pledged earlier.

He said the district will make up the shortfall in two ways.

"We have $300,000 from bond refunding set aside to help us if needed and there are some positives on the revenue side," Vignone said. "We thought the Legislature would come through, but they didn't. We didn't want to appropriate any more fund balance."

Vignone said there is a good chance Parkland will see some of the PlanCon money, for construction reimbursement, overdue from the state since 2010.

This money relates to construction of Jaindl Elementary School.
