Students from Northwestern High School met their new band directors at a year-end band meeting.
Middle school band and chorus Director Jim Lykins will be moving to the high school in the fall to direct the music program.
He will be assisted by Northwestern Elementary Music Teacher Shawn Fies.
Band members and their parents met in the band room June 11 to hear plans for the upcoming band season.
AS many of the students will be new to the marching band, the directors have decided to keep the fall program simple with limited marching around the field.
Lykins said he fully embraces his new position.
"It's all about the kids," Lykins said.
Lykins also said he also wanted to increase the band to 60 members, a number almost realized at the meeting.
So, he raised the number of band members to 70. As of the last day of school, that number had been reached.
