The Parkland School Board recently approved a bid by Tyco Simplex Grinnell for vestibule security updates at Parkway Manor Elementary for $30,146; Cetronia Elementary for $24,523; and Ironton Elementary for $30,361.
The projects include burglar alarm systems, card readers, cameras and door sensors.
Kratzer Elementary, undergoing a major renovation project, will receive new furniture at a cost of $262,457.
At the June 17 meeting, District Superintendent Richard Sniscak said the furniture includes cabinets, desks and equipment to replace items in use for many years.
The board approved school lunch prices for the 2014-15 term at $2.35 for elementary, $2.60 for secondary, and $3.50 for adults.
Elementary breakfasts will be $1.15; secondary is $1.25. Milk will cost 50 cents.
For qualifying students, reduced price lunch will be 40 cents and breakfast 30 cents.
Board member Bob Bold was re-elected president of the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 Board of Directors.
Bold said with services from CLIU 21 students with special needs have been able to complete their education and graduate.
"Fifty years ago, these kids would not have graduated," Bold said. "They would not have had a chance."
Board member Robert Cohen was appointed representative to Parkland Community Library.
Cohen said he would like to improve communication and the relationship between the library and the school district.
Several years have passed since Parkland had a community library representative.
The Class of 2014 was comprised of 804 graduating seniors.
