Wilbur J. Smiles, railroad superintendent

Wilbur J. Smiles, 77, of Bethlehem, died June 16, 2014, in St. Luke's Hospice House. He was the husband of Jayne A. (Alexander) Smiles. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Wilbur J. and Malvena (Ferrey) Smiles.

He was a graduate of Lafayette College.

He was a superintendent of the subsidiary railroad and a manager of intermodal services, both for Bethlehem Steel. He was a site specialist for LVIP before retiring.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem.

He belonged to Silver Creek Country Club. He was a member of the American Friends of Lafayette.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Suzanne and her husband Joseph E. Fatzinger of Kempton and Elizabeth and her husband Ronald T. DeBlis of Millburn, N.J.; a sister, Marilyn O'Neill of Clark, N.J.; and four grandsons, Thomas, Isaac, William and Sam.
