Northwestern Elementary students' art on display

"When people come in they always look at your pictures," said Northwestern Lehigh School Board President Darryl Schafer.

During the May 21 school board meeting, Northwestern Elementary studentsreplaced the art exhibit with new works.

Teacher Sarah Miller told the school directors the first graders read and created "Wild Things."

Second graders created fantasy landscapes and students in third grade studied the Mexican culture and based their art on that.

Fourth-grade artists made a collage based on the Day of the Dead and the fifth grade designed Mexican adobe houses.

Along the window sills were rows of monsters in 3D origami.

After creating their monster, the students answered questions such as, "How can a monster be a friend."

They also filled out a worksheet about monsters. The talented young artist stood by their creations and received accolades. Board member LeRoy Sorensen said the district was great because of what parents do.

"They deserve acknow-ledgement," Sorensen said.
