LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Coplay Column

"Fizz, Boom, Read," isn't a reference to fireworks on the Fourth of July, but rather the theme for Coplay Public Library's summer reading program.

The annual summer reading program begins Monday, June 23 and concludes Aug. 9.

Patrons are invited to stop in noon-7 p.m. June 23 for the program kick-off day and to register.

The program will feature Wacky Wednesday science experiments and other activities throughout the summer.

Participants can earn raffle tickets for the library's grand prize gift basket drawings which will feature prizes for various age groups. Drawings will be held at the program finale, to feature refreshments and games. The date for the finale will be set later.

The library is also offering leniency for those with overdue books through its "Food for Fines Amnesty Month."

For each can of food a person gives to the library, fines are reduced by $1. The food is then donated to the Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association. The program runs through June 30.

Now that school is out for the summer, borough officials expect a surge in season pool passes.

Pool passes are available at the borough office. Rates for Coplay residents have not increased from last year. Rates are $55 for adults, $40 for students and $105 for families. Daily admission is $5.

Rates are higher for nonresidents.

A day care center has committed to bringing a bus load of kids on weekdays and a second day care center is also expected to come aboard.

The first pool event, aqua zumba, took place Monday and will run weekly starting at 6:30 p.m.

A Dip-N-Dance will take place 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 27.

Swimming lessons begin Monday, June 30, and end Thursday, July 10. Lessons are open to Coplay residents who pay a $32 fee.

The pool opens at noon and closes at 8 p.m. Closing time moves to 7 p.m. starting Aug. 12.
