The Moravian Academy class of 2014, with pomp and style, joined the ranks of alumni Saturday during the school's commencement exercises at the Merle-Smith Campus, Bethlehem.

A cool breeze and blue skies ushered in the 75 newly minted graduates.

Class of 2014 President Nicollette Amico provided the remarks. She asked her classmates to remember their time at Moravian Academy. The school, she said, has armed them with the skills needed to succeed in the future.

"We learned how to find balance," she said. "The future of our generation is in our hands, and I know we are capable of greatness."

Amico also told the class not to shy away from accepting the challenges that lie ahead in life.

"Always strive for better than the best," she said. "The people who have really succeeded are those who were not afraid to take chances."

Richard D. Krohn, director of the upper school, recognized the class for the many great things the graduates have accomplished. The graduates were lauded for their contributions and successes in academics, sports, music, drama and volunteer work, both in the Lehigh Valley and around the world.

"Their achievements are remarkable and striking," Krohn said.

Robert H. Brown, board of trustees chair, said he has personally seen the progression of each graduate.

"I've watched you grow over the years, meet challenges and accomplish great things," he said.

Graduates will attend such schools in the fall as Albright College, Boston College, Dickinson College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, University of Pennsylvania, Smith College, Stanford University, Rice University, University of California at Los Angeles, University of Pittsburgh, Wake Forest University and Wesleyan College.

"Class of 2014, let's make our mark," Amico said.
