Coplay Parkway Pool will be ready for bathers Saturday.

The pool at North Second and Keefer streets will be open this weekend, noon to 7 p.m. The pool officially opens, Saturday, June 14. Thereafter, the pool is open daily, noon to 8 p.m. During August, the pool is open noon to 7 p.m. There are three Dip-N-Dance events set for June 27, July 23 and August 23.

Aqua Zumba is a new class offered at the pool. Classes will be offered Monday evenings, starting 6:30 p.m. The first event is scheduled for June 16. Other events to look for at the pool will be the B104 Park and Pool Patrol, July 9, and an all-day luau Party Saturday, July 12. Island Expressions will serve tropical drinks, food specials and luau entertainment. Mermaid Avalon will visit the pool Saturday, July 26, and again during the Community Days Weekend, Saturday, August 23.

The good news is pool rates are unchanged from 2013. A family pass for borough residents is $105, $115 for Whitehall residents and $150 for others. Adult passes are $55 for borough residents, $60 for Whitehall residents and $70 for others. Borough and Whitehall student passes are $40 and $50 for others. The daily rate is $5 for Coplay residents, $6 for Whitehall and $8 for those outside Coplay and Whitehall.

The Coplay Public Library this month is observing Food for Fines Amnesty Month. If you have a book out that is overdue the library will take $1 off your fines. The food is then donated to the Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association Food Bank.

The library's summer reading program, popular with children, begins Monday, June 23. The library will operate under summer hours beginning June 23 to August 1. The library will be open Monday through Thursday, noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m.. to 2 p.m.

The Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission will celebrate National Trails Day this Saturday, June 7. The observance will be all day at the IRT Trailhead Pavilion, Ruch and Chestnut streets. The IRT board will hold a public meeting Wednesday, June 17, 7 p.m., at the trailhead pavilion. The IRT trail is a loop through Coplay and Whitehall and a spur into North Whitehall Township and Whitehall and a spur into North Whitehall Township.
