Northwestern students win twirling championship
The Northwestern Lehigh High School Twirlers successfully defended their 2013 TIA Chapter 2 Scholastic Novice Twirling Championship by winning the 2014 title at Parkland High School on April 26.
Kutztown High School placed second.
The competition was sponsored by the Tournament Indoor Association and was a part of the Tournament of Bands organization.
The team, which consists of middle school and high school girls, found themselves once again in a rebuilding process but with a lot of hard work and determination went on to have an undefeated season.
The team will now be heading to Wildwood N.J., to compete at the All-Chapter Championships May 1-4.
The girls placed third in the 2013 competition.
The 2014 show was entitled "Still Into You" and consisted of music from "Maze of the Butterfly" and the hit song by the group Paramour "Still Into You."
The team is coach by former Parkland High School feature Twirler, Donna Pechacek with assistance from Ashley Pechacek, a former National Champion in Two Baton twirling as well as a former Northwestern Lehigh twirler.
The team consists of the following sophomores:Ashley Frisch (captain), Alyssa Dellecker, Jenny Casale, Brittany Miller and Shannon Shelly; seven grader Violet Shane; sixth graders Kelly Mease and Jennifer Lindtner and fifth grader Jordann Kressley.
The girls would like to thank everyone who helped make this season such a wonderful success…their parents, Jason Zimmerman, Janelle Keglovitz, Kay Bertha, Bob (the MS janitor) and Ed (their awesome bus driver).
