North Whitehall Township advertises for road materials
North Whitehall Township supervisors have advertised for bids for in-place road projects for the year. Bids will be opened 9 a.m. May 19 .
Awarding of bids will be at a special meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. on May 20. This is the only business that will be conducted at this meeting.
In other matters, a minor subdivision of three lots on Pine Street was reviewed by the board.
Supervisors had concerns about the availability of adequate area for township trucks to turn abound when plowing snow.
Property owner John Gross was agreeable to give sufficient area to the township for this purpose.
Two waivers are necessary for this project to move forward – one on the road access and one on the lot size.
The lot to be subdivided has access to Greenhill Drive.
The township received four bids for propane. The low bid was awarded to E.F. Laudenslager with a bid of $1.5731 per gallon.
Township Manager Jeff Bartlett advised the board a lot on Trexler Drive in Crestwood Heights, which was designated as a recreation lot when the subdivision was approved, will be subdivided into two building lots.
The original intention was a homeowners association would be formed and the recreation area would be taken over by the association.
As this did not occur, the lot remained in the hands of developer Curtis Schneck.
The pumping station for the water system in the subdivision is located on the site and will be accessed via easement.
Lehigh County Authority owns the water system.
Bartlett reported zoning hearing board had two cases to review in April.
One involved a setback variance in Schnecksville North, which was granted; the other was the special exception for Tex's Barbecue, in the lot across from Hunsicker Funeral Home, Route 309 and Shankweiler Road, Schnecksville.
The hearing for the barbecue was continued until 7:30 p.m. May 28.
Lehigh County Authority requested a letter from the township in support of its application for a grant to improve the lines in a water system in the Wynn-wood Subdivision.
The LCA proposes to fix the leaks in the system to improve efficiency and give better service by grouting the lines using a process that seals the leaks from inside.
The original system was built by the subdivider but was taken over by LCA.
Several residents voiced complaints with Bartlett concerning the intersection of Oakland and Mulberry streets.
There is only one stop sign at the intersection.
Bartlett is proposing installing a stop sign on each road making it a three-way stop intersection.
Several accidents have occurred there.
Bartlett will meet with the public works department and study the situation and will report to the board next month.
He also reported the township crew has been working on Independence Park trying to get it ready for the summer season.
Solicitor Lisa Young presented a resolution to establish the access easement granted by Lehigh Valley Recycling for accessing the Ironton Rails to Trails pathway.
The site is at the intersection of Portland and Quarry roads. Portion of the easement will be paved by the township.
Cinders and aggregate on the roadway were discussed.
These particles are left behind from the winter maintenance of the roads.
Some concerns were voiced about state roads and the removal of cinders.
Supervisor Steve Pany said residents should contact the township if they see a problem and the township will contact the state.
The township sweeper is out daily sweeping the township roads.
Neffs Pool was discussed. The pool will never be used again as a pool and will eventually be filled in.
Pany suggetsed the recreation commission recommend potential uses for the site, such as passive recreation.
