James F. Kegg Jr.
James F. Kegg Jr., 86, of Bethlehem, died April 27, 2014, in St. Luke's Hospice House. Born in Johnstown, he was the son of the late James F. Sr. and Maude (Stedman) Kegg. He was the husband of the late Jane (Caltabach) Kegg.
He was a graduate of Johnstown Central High School where he earned varsity letters in football, basketball and track. He was a 1976 graduate of the executive program of Business Administration, Columbia University.
He played professional minor league baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball club affiliates. He was a Bethlehem Steel Corporation employee, beginning in 1955 as a junior buyer in the Johnstown district purchasing office. He was transferred to the Bethlehem office and was worked his way to being vice president, Materials and Transportation, from which he retired in 1987.
He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church and served on their Board of Trustees.
He was lifetime certified as a certified purchasing manager by the National Association of Purchasing Management. He served on the boards of the American Iron and Steel Institute, AISI Committee on Purchasing, Steel Industry Supplier Audit Process, Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce, Northampton County Development Corp., Lehigh River Foundation and Iron Ore Company of Canada. He is a past president and member of the board of the former Bethlehem Club, Hotel Bethlehem Corp. and Saucon Valley Country Club. He was a member of the Moravian College council.
He is survived by two daughters, Becky Jane and her husband Anthony Loupos of Bowers and Deborah Ann and her husband Guy Aldrich of Allentown; two grandsons, Michael and his wife Janel Moyer of Ocean View, Del. and Brian Aldrich and his wife Andrea of Ellicott City, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail.
