Middle school art on display in Northwestern boardroom

The artwork of 10 middle school students is on display in the Northwestern Lehigh school board meeting room.

Their teacher, Christina Fogel, brought a video to introduce the students.

Five of them were present in person.

Fogel said she was happy to share the artwork with the Tiger community.

Sixth graders with two-dimensional art on display were Harrison Bernhard and Thomas Bell.

Between pairs of students on the video essential questions were asked such as "How does art reflect the community?"

The questions were part of the classwork and there was more than one discussed time.

Seventh graders were Emily Akelaitis and Emily Crounse.

One of the questions was "How is an artist influenced by experience?"

Eighth grade two-dimensional work was by Caitlin Rehrig and Adriana Walt.

"How does art call attention to social issues? was the essential question.

Eighth grade three-dimensional work was exhibited by Colin DeLong, Christian Koerhler, Jackson Bernhard and Leighton Gift.

The question was "Who can influence the artist?" Answers included "My grandfather," and "My parents."

Board member Paul Fisher said kids do better in life when they study art, drama and music.

Fisher said he is glad Northwestern has not had to drop those classes.
