Stomach Virus sets new punkin' chunkin' record

In November 2013, a local hurling team traveled to the World Championship Punkin' Chunkin' for the fourth consecutive year.

Kutztown High School senior Phil Moyer pedaled 730 pounds of counterweight up to the top of the 17-foot towers in about 95 seconds.

This powered a 4-pound pumpkin to a distance of 1230 feet, securing a world championship title in their division, and a new world record:

The Kutztown Senior High School "Stomach Virus" trebuchet was outfitted with a new throwing arm and a bicycle powered winch so they could compete in the Youth 11-17 Human powered division, in which all energy to launch must be provided by one human being in 2 minutes or less.

On April 6, the Stomach Virus will make a local appearance at the Cantalobber competition at Kutztown University:

Stomach Virus is the reigning Cantalobber champion in the mechanical division.

This year, the boys are proud to return to the Cantalobber, and hope that local chunking fans will turn out to celebrate the sheer delight of hurling fruit.
