Northampton Community College

L.V. Dance Exchange Exchange

Northampton Community College, in cooperation with Lehigh Valley Dance Exchange and Monarch Dance Company, will host the second annual "SpringUP" dance festival March 29 and 30.

There will be guest artists from New York City, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh; and master classes and performances. Registration is free, which includes performances, is open to professional-level dancers in college and beyond. There are free general public tickets for the SpringUP Dance Festival. Author and veteran Wes Moore to speak (with photo)

Wes Moore, Rhodes scholar, White House fellow, veteran and author of bestseller "The Other Wes Moore, One Name, Two Fates", will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 8 at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center, NCC Main Campus, 3835 Green Pond Road.

The free talk is a part of "Off to War and Coming Home," a year-long, multidisciplinary exploration of American war veterans during their service and upon reentry into civilian life. It is grantfunded bythe National Endowment for the Humanities and matched by donors. Community partners include the Bethlehem Area Public Library, Eastern Monroe Public Library, Bethlehem Area School District, Stroudsburg Area School District, Historic Bethlehem Partnership, and Monroe County Historical Association.

Soap Bubbles and Math program April 3

Soap Bubbles and Math, a free and open to the public program with Dr. Frank Morgan, will be held at 11 a.m. April 3 at NCC. A William Allen High and an M.I.T. and Princeton University graduate, he is an Atwell Professor of Mathematics at Williams College, Mass. The show will include a guessing contest with demonstrations, explanations and prizes. For information, email jgalick@northampton.edu.

'State of Israel' program April 2

Kate Bertholot, CNRS researcher, National Center for Scientific Research, Marseille, France, will speak on the State of Israel and Christian ZIonism's use of the bible at 7 p.m. April 2, Lehigh University Sinclair Auditorium, 7 Asa Drive. April 11 Khan Lecture features Thornton

Charles H. Thornton will be a featured presenter at the upcoming Fazlur R. Khan Distinguished Lecture Series at 4:30 p.m. April 11. His topic is "Renaissance, Rebirth and Disruptive Innovation," which will discuss the four companies he formed after stepping down from his role as co-chairman of Thornton Tomasetti, including management and engineering firm Charles H. Thornton & Company, LLC; technology and structural health monitoring company Straam Inc.; TTG, an industrialized, prefabricated construction entity; and AECOS Ltd., a systems integration company.

The Fazlur R. Khan Distinguished Lecture Series honors Dr. Fazlur Rahman Khan's legacy of excellence in structural engineering and architecture.

Moravian College

39th Annual Dance Concert

The Moravian College Dance Company, under the direction of Mary Anne Gillen Hoffman, will present its 39th annual concert at 7:30 p.m. March 28 and 29 in the Foy Concert Hall, south campus. Penn State Lehigh Valley will host its annual free, open to the public Undergraduate Research Symposium from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 1 in room 135, Center Valley campus. The keynote address and awards presentation will begin at 12:15 p.m.

Urbina lecture March 27

Penn State Lehigh Valley 2014 Faculty Lecture Series with Julio Urbina, Ph.D., Penn State associate professor of electrical engineering, a12:15 p.m. March 27 in room 135, Center Valley campus. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Urbina joined Penn State in 2006. He had been on the faculty of the Donaghey College of Information Science and Systems Engineering, University of Arkansas, Little Rock. He was a RF and Digital Engineer at the Jicamarca Radio Observatory, Peru, and was a visiting scientist at the Arecibo Observatory in the Space and Atmospheric Sciences group.
