Coming Events:

·Feb. 28: Jaindl Elementary's annual Family Fitness Night, 6-8 p.m. This free event focuses on getting kids and their families to try new things and discover ways to have fun and be healthy together.

Gold medalist Marty Nothstein will be making a guest visit. Also featured will be animal yoga (with real animals), timed races, Nerf throwing contests, Zumba, martial arts, Wii dancing, healthy snack making, and much more.

·March 6: Kernsville Elementary First Grade Winter Olympic Games, 1:30-3:15 p.m.

To culminate a reading unit titled "Stories of Our Past," first graders will embark on a heritage project by comparing things from the past to things in the present.

Capitalizing on the 2014 Winter Olympic Games to make this connection, students will design the flag of their heritage and work in inquiry groups to gather information on the Olympics for that country.

During the ceremony, the students will take part in a parade of nations and give an informational presentation about the Olympic Games and then participate in the first grade games.

·March 6, 7 and 8: "Guys and Dolls, Jr.," Springhouse Middle School Spring Musical, at 7 p.m. each day with 2 p.m. matinee March 8.

Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City, "Guys and Dolls, JR." introduces colorful characters who have become legends: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll"; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, a nightclub performer whose chronic flu is brought on by the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for is infamous floating dice game. Tickets are $5 at the door.

·March 6, 7, 8 and 9: "Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr.," Orefield Middle School Spring Musical, 7 p.m. on March 6, 7 and 8 and 2 p.m. March 9.

"Be our guest" and step into the enchanted world of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast Jr." Featuring songs from the Academy Award-winning animated feature, this stage version will transport you to the heart of a quaint French town, where Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman, yearns for something more than her provincial life.

Belle surrenders her freedom to save her father from a horrible Beast and, by taming the Beast, teaches him the meaning of love. Tickets are $5 at the door.

·January students of the month at LCTI include: Sabrina Pawlowski, commercial photography/electronic imaging; Lewis Lenny, carpentry; Cody Gross, auto technology; John Amato, culinary arts; Michael Ream, welding technology; Antonella Di Stefano, culinary arts; Nathan Galanti, electromechanical/mechatronics technology; Michael Ream, welding technology; Emily Peralta, electrical technology; Stephanie Shook, health occupations/health related technology; and Samuel Belman, plumbing and heating.

·March 5 is National End the R Word Day. Each year, the Parkland High School PALS Club (the only one in the Lehigh Valley and big with 200 members) has been successful Spreading the Word to end the word with activities promoting acceptance and respect to all people.

PALS Club members put out the message , that words can hurt, and think about what you say before you say it.

In preparation for the National Day, PALS Club is selling T-shirts to wear March 5 to show support to end the negative use of the word "retarded" from everyday speech.

All profits from the sales benefit Lehigh County Special Olympics. Last year, the club donated $1,000.

·Kindergarten registration March 4-13. If you have a child who will be turning age 5 by Oct. 1, make an appointment at your neighborhood elementary school.

·March 14, April 17, and 21 will now be regular school days to make-up days lost from inclement weather.
