Sewer authority elects officers
Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority elected officers and appointed committee chairmen at its Jan. 16 meeting.
The municipalities appoint the members of the board.
Whitehall Township appointed Paul F. Geissinger to fill the position on the authority formerly held by James Roth.
During the election, Attorney Jack Stover handled the administrative duties until the chairman and vice chairman were elected.
As voted by his fellow authority member, John Schreiner of Coplay will continue his post as chairman.
Schreiner then nominated John Carpenter of Whitehall for vice chairman. The board approved the nomination.
Schreiner made the following administrative appointments: Michael Hobel, treasurer; James Hahn, secretary; Joseph Marx, community affairs officer; Joseph Bonshak, assistant treasurer; Paul Geissinger, assistant secretary.
Plant Manager David Harleman reported on the results of the annual TV sewer inspection.
"Based on the information we gathered, we have a list of maintenance items that we will be working on in 2014," he said.
Harleman also reported on repairs to a homeowner's lateral line that caused an inappropriate intrusion into the main sewer line. The repairs caused damage to surrounding buildings as well as the sewer line.
According to Harleman, everything was corrected. CWSA initiated an insurance claim against the contractor.
Marx asked Darryl Jenkins, CWSA's engineer, about the state of finish work around Hokendauqua Park left over from the Coplay Creek Interceptor project. According to Jenkins, all the property owners who still have finish work requirements for the contractor agreed to delay the work until spring.
CWSA holds $88,000 in escrow to insure that the work is satisfactorily completed.
