Coming Events:
·Feb. 7: Springhouse Middle School Dance-a-thon/Get up and Move Event, 6-9 p.m. This is a fundraiser for the SMS Partnership and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. Students must raise $30 or more in pledges for entrance. The event includes dancing, Hoops for Hope and Race to the Finish activities.

Aryaman Khandelwal, eighth-grade student, is the 2014 Springhouse Middle School Spelling Bee champion.
Aryaman, who had a near perfect score on the preliminary round written test, competed against 13 other contestants in grades six to eight for the title.
Along with Aryaman, Nur Bookwala, Ojas Gupta, Audrika Khonaker, James Kim, Zeinah Letefa, Gayoung Lee, Andrea Maghacot, Vikram Pandian, Sung Min Park, Angela Qiu, Kavish Senthilkumar, Seungkwon Soh and Emma Stolinas represented the top spellers of more than 200 students who participated in the preliminary written round.
Scripps National Spelling Bee provides students with the opportunity to sharpen their spelling skills through local, regional and national competitions.
After spelling his winning word "pittance, "Aryaman received prizes from the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, as did second-place winner Sung Min Park.
Aryaman will represent Springhouse at the regional spelling bee at Northampton Community College in March.
·Registration for kindergarten will be March 4-13. If you have a child who will be turning age 5 by Oct. 1, make a registration appointment at your neighborhood elementary school.

·Registration for new students entering Parkland High School next fall will be Feb. 24 and 25. A snow make-up date is scheduled for Feb. 27.
This after-school registration is designated for students currently residing in the Parkland School District but not attending Parkland schools.

·Feb. 14 and April 17 will be regular school days to make-up days lost from inclement weather.
· Parkland School District was awarded a $58,000 grant to fund an existing or new school resource officer.
Eligible schools and municipalities could apply for up to $60,000 for a school resource officer.
Grantees are required to fund the officer's position for at least two years.
The school district currently funds an SRO at Parkland High School and one who covers both middle schools.
Both SRO's are South Whitehall police officers.
