Constance C. "Connie" Ega n, 9 2, known to everyone in the family as "Dream," died at Lehigh Center, Macungie, Jan. 14, 2014. She was the wife of the late James Egan, who died in 1998. Born in Jamaica, N.Y., she spent her early years and most of her married life in Queens. She then lived in Florida for 20 years before moving to Macungie in 2006 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was an elegant lady, beautiful inside and out, who radiated composure and personal dignity through nine decades of life. The nickname, "Dream" dates back to her first grandchild. She would hold little Gary and adoringly sing, 'You're my little Dreamboat." He began to associate her with the song and would call her "Dreamboat," later shortened to "Dream."
She worked as a young woman at IBM before taking a decade off to raise her family. She returned to work in consumer finance for one of the world's largest department store chains, also finding time to teach religious education and serve as president of the Mother's Club at her children's school.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen and her husband Steve Salerno, of Macungie; son, Kenneth, of Haymarket, Va.; four grandchildren, Gary and his wife Vasso, Jennifer, Ryan and Graig; four great-grandchildren, Zoe, Jordan, Nina and Ava.
Contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
Arrangements were made by the Trexler Funeral Home, Inc., Allentown.
