The Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association appointed Richard Hess as the president at its Jan. 6 meeting. Hess will serve during 2014 and 2015.

Hess, a director with the association for several years, is secretary and board member with the borough's zoning hearing board of adjustment. He formerly served on the board of the Coplay Public Library and as a coach with the Grasshopper Baseball Program at Coplay Sports Inc.

Other officers elected include Robart A. Hauke, vice president, Sheila Klement, secretary and Sandra Gyecsek, treasurer.

The association said it will sponsor 15 street banners which the borough's planning commission has as a project. The banners will carry its name and include a separte activity on each one.

The association's 2014 calendar includes programs and events it has been affiliated with for years. Among them are the Children's Easter egg hunt, community Halloween parade and the Christmas community tree lighting and concert.

The organization also runs a food bank, offers holiday meals for food bank clients and free use of convalescent eqipment and sponsors the community message board at Chestnut and Maple streets.
