Eroh wins fifth off-road racing title

Ever since his early teenage years, Brad Eroh has been involved in racing of some sort.

Eroh, a 1997 graduate of Northwestern High School-started racing go-carts at the age of 13. During his early career as a go-cart racer, he captured eight championships, including the national go-cart championship in 1998.

After racing go-carts for eight years, Eroh made the switch to off-road racing in the East Coast Four-Wheel Drive Association in 2000, where individuals race three types of events (drag, figure-eight and obstacle) over the course of a weekend. Races are held throughout the east coast, stretching from Williamsport to Dover, DE.

And since Eroh started racing jeeps in the East Coast Four-Wheel Drive Association, he has enjoyed plenty of success.

Eroh has captured five championships over his off-road career, including this past season when he was named the Region B champion. He also was the champion in 2011, 2010, 2005 and 2003.

"It's for more or less the family atmosphere," Eroh said. "You go for the weekend. It's a big camping weekend and racing during the day and stuff. We stay there all weekend. It's a little more relaxing than me driving there, racing, and then driving home."

During the season, Eroh and the rest of the participants race in 10-12 events during every other weekend that lasts from Memorial Day until the end of September.

A women's and men's champion is crowned each season, with the champion receiving possession of the trophy with his or her name engraved on the list. Until next season's champion is crowned, Eroh will hold onto that trophy. It's positioned next to one of his three jeeps at his garage. That is, unless, he repeats as champion.

"It's just trying to be the best at whatever that you do kind of thing," Eroh said.

Growing up during his younger childhood years, Eroh was always around racing. Both of his parents raced in the 1980s, and he has certainly carried on that tradition.

"My parents actually off-road raced before that, so I grew up around it," Eroh said. "But then I got into go-cart racing. And then I wanted to get out of go-carts, and I got into the off-road racing."

He's been a champion a total of 13 times during his go-cart and off-road racing career, including the champion of the Pennsylvania State Dirt Series in 1999 and 2000, the final two seasons he raced go-carts.

"[The year] 2000 was when I kind of did both," Eroh said. "I didn't run any local go-carts; I ran all state races and national races."
