"Peeps in Paradise," a cruise ship featuring Peeps playing shuffleboard and sun bathing, and "Peeps Rock New York," a Peeps-filled depiction of New York City's Rockefeller Center, took top honors at the 2013 Peeps Diorama competition during Peepsfest.
This family festival was presented Dec. 30 and 31, 2013, by Just Born Quality Confections and ArtsQuest.
Nearly 100 dioramas incorporating Peeps candy were created by area school children and were on display during the event, which took place at SteelStacks in Bethlehem.
"Peeps in Paradise," created by St. Joseph the Worker fifth-grade students Ashleigh Meskill, Clara Krohn, Tess Horn and Joy Wetzel, was named the "Peep-les Choice" winner based on voting at the festival, while "Peeps Rock New York," done by St. Joseph the Worker third-graders Emily Billig, Mae Cook, Morgan Dobil and Julianna Hahn, was named "Best in Show" by the official Peepsfest judging panel.
Both groups of students won Peeps and Company gift bags and were invited to help drop the giant Peeps Chick on New Year's Eve to count down the New Year.
The first-place winners and "Peep-les Choice" dioramas will also be displayed during 2014 at the Just Born Quality Confections exhibit at the Sigal Museum in Easton.
Other winners include:
6th grade: First place: Peep Hill Christmas Tree Farm, St. Joseph the Worker Elementary School, Kelsey Rodowicz, Alex Hallingstand and Erica Lincoln;
Seventh-12th grades: Third place: An Authentic Peep Art Design, St. Joseph the Worker Elementary School, eighth grade, Danica Schafer.
