Coplay council gets set for 2014

Coplay Borough Mayor Joseph Bundra and Councilmen Lou Bodish, Steve Burker, Joseph Groller, Carl Luckenbach and Charlie Sodl were sworn in at the 95th reorganization meeting of the borough Jan. 6.

Bodish, Burker, Luckenbach and Sodl will serve four-year terms. Groller will serve a two-year term.

Administering the oath of office was District Magistrate Robert Halal.

Councilman Bill Leiner Jr. welcomed the returning council members and Bundra.

"I want to congratulate all the elected officials sworn in tonight," Leiner said. "I look forward to the next few years. I think we'll move the community forward."

During the reorganizational meeting, council also approved Bodish to serve as council president, Groller as vice president and Dave Royer as pro-tem.

Council additionally reappointed Sandra Gyecsek to serve as borough secretary, treasurer and right-to-know officer.

James Preston will serve as borough solicitor.

Reappointed as borough police chief was Vincent Genovese. Matthew Buskaritz will continue to serve as fire chief and Richard Craig as assistant fire chief.

Also at the meeting, council established garbage rates for 2014. The rate will remain $260 per year for regular households and $220 for senior citizens, with a 10 percent discount if paid by March 31.

Council also set workshop meetings for 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month and the regular meetings for 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.

Also approved was Northampton Branch of First Northern Bank & Trust as the depository for all borough funds and Jeffry P. Deutsch to serve as delinquent tax collector for the borough.

The council will hold a regular meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the borough municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.
